Casserole Tips & Tricks

  1. Prep Ingredients in Advance: Chop vegetables, cook meats, and measure out all your ingredients before you start assembling the casserole.
  2. Layer Ingredients: Layer ingredients like pasta, rice, or potatoes on the bottom of the dish for even cooking. Place denser ingredients like meat and vegetables on top.
  3. Casseroles can handle a good amount of seasoning, so be sure to salt and pepper each layer or as the recipe suggests.
  4. Add Moisture: If your casserole seems dry, you can add moisture with broth, sauce, or cheese. Conversely, if it’s too wet, you can remove excess liquid or bake it uncovered for a bit to evaporate moisture.
  5. Cover When Necessary: Use aluminum foil or a lid to cover the casserole during baking to retain moisture and prevent excessive browning. Remove the cover toward the end of cooking for a golden, crispy top on your Rice A Roni Hamburger Casserole Recipe.
  6. Cheese on Top: If your recipe calls for cheese, add it to the top during the last 10-15 minutes of baking. This ensures it melts and gets beautifully bubbly without burning.
