How Do I Make Black Frosting
Halloween cupcake decorating ideas are more fun with dark black frosting. You can find black pre-made frosting around Halloween at the store. Otherwise you can order some online. If you want to make it yourself make sure you get some very good quality black food coloring otherwise you’ll need to use a lot as white frosting tends to turn gray. On the other hand you can start with chocolate frosting as the base since it’s already dark it’s easier to make black.

What Is The Best Red Food Coloring?

Baking Tips & Hacks For Halloween Cupcake Decorating Ideas
I used Chefmaster red food coloring for the cupcake batter however you can substitute red velvet box cake mix for your Cruella De Vil cake ideas and skip the red food color all together.
Chill the cupcake batter in the refrigerator for 30 minutes before baking and preheat the oven. This will ensure your cupcakes turn out moist and spongey.

- 1M Drop Flower Piping Tip

How To Make 101 Dalmatian Inspired Desserts!

- For The Cupcakes
- I combined the water, oil, eggs, and food coloring first and whisked until it became frothy
- Depending on your brand of red food coloring you made need a bit more or less, just add a few drops of food color at a time and whisk until you get the color you want (you could also use red velvet box cake mix but I don’t love the flavor so I didn’t do that)
- Then I slowly sifted in the box cake mix and whisked until smooth and lump free
- Then line your cupcake pan with liners
- Fill each one slightly more than ½ way full
- Chill them in the refrigerator for 30 minutes minimum
- For The Black & White Frosting Swirl (for your Cruella De Vil cake ideas)
- Tear off a sheet of plastic wrap that is large enough to wrap around the frosting
- Lay it flat on a clean surface
- Take a spoonful of black frosting and place it on one side of the plastic wrap. Then, take a spoonful of white frosting and place it on the other side of the plastic wrap. Make sure to keep the two colors separate when making Halloween cupcake decorating ideas!
- Starting from one end, carefully roll up the plastic wrap to create a log-like shape. Keep rolling until all the frosting is encased in the plastic wrap
- Grab your piping bag, insert the piping tip, cut off the end and slide the tip through that hole (make sure it’s secure- you can put tape if you want)
- Cut the end off the plastic wrap and insert it into your piping bag
- Set it aside (if it’s too soft refrigerate it for 15 minutes before frosting your cupcakes)
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees F
- Bake cupcakes for 15 minutes
- Let them rest to room temperature
- Chill them in the fridge for 30 minutes
- Then it’s time to frost
- Hold the twisted end of the plastic wrap firmly and gently squeeze the piping bag to start piping the frosting. Apply consistent pressure to create even lines or patterns. As you pipe, the black and white frosting will mix and create a marbled effect
- Add black or red sprinkles if desired

Storage Tips For Cruella De Vil cake ideas
Halloween cupcake decorating ideas are so much fun, but how do you store them without messing up the frosting? Cupcakes can typically be stored at room temperature for 1 to 2 days. In that case find a deep storage container with lots of space so the cupcakes have a lot of room. Also so that when you cover the container with a lid or plastic wrap it does not smash the frosting.
On the other hand you can refrigerate them for up to 5 days in the same type of container. It’s best not to freeze these as they don’t thaw or reheat well.
